Although Bear Grass looks like a grass it is actually a part of the lily family. While not in bloom it grows to about 4.5 feet tall. But once in bloom the stalk
with the flower can be up to 6 feet! Bear grass tends to flower in 7 year cycles and is among one of the first plants to start growing in areas damaged by fire.
Native Americans traditionally made baskets with the stems and roots of bear grass.
